ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING - FEBRUARY 5

February 5th is the Annual Congregational Meeting, and the service will be shortened a little to accommodate it. Everyone in Spirit Quest and Youth Group are invited to leave after the first hymn.

ST. PETER’S 2011 PHOTO DIRECTORY:

The photo directories have arrived and are available for pick-up by all who sat for a photo. They may be picked up before and after church in the narthex. They may also be picked from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Monday – Friday) at the church office. If you know of someone that has not picked up their directory and lives in your neighbourhood we would appreciate if you could deliver it. Each directory has a name label so be sure you have the correct one. If you have questions please see John Stanyon or call at 705-522-3787 or e-mail at johnmarylou_stanyon@sympatico.ca.

LUNCH & LEARN - FEB 12

Please plan to attend a Lunch and Learn, “Building a Better Community”, with Janet Gasparini of the Social Planning Council on Sunday, February 12th immediately after worship. Janet will focus her discussion around the movie Let’s Start a Conversation about Health . . . and Not Talk about Health Care At All produced by the Sudbury and District Health Unit. This is an opportunity for us to explore how we can live out our mission “to serve our community and to work for peace and justice.”

UCW meeting - FEB 13

The next UCW meeting is happening Monday, February 13 at 1.00pm. “Exercises to Prevent Falls” will be presented by instructors from Parkside Center. Bring a friend. Dress casually and wear comfortable footwear. All welcome (men too).

MILC WORKSHOP - MAR 3

Are you a pastoral visitor? Are you involved in hospital and nursing home visiting? Are you caring for or supporting someone experiencing major life transitions? The Manitou Intentional Learning Community and Emmanuel College invite you to “Supporting those who Support” with Rev. Dr. Anne Simmonds, adjunct faculty at Emmanuel College. The event will take place on Saturday, March 3rd at St. Peter’s United Church, York Street, Sudbury from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration fee $50. Financial assistance is available. ST. PETER’S WOMEN’S EVENT

St. Peter’s women of ALL ages are asked to mark March 25th on their calendars. The UCW is planning a special event to take place after the Sunday service on that date. We hope you will be able to join us for lunch (and more) whether you are a regular UCW member or a member/ adherent of St. Peter’s. More information will come later in February.

“SAN PIETRO’S PIZZERIA” SUPPORTING THE CORNER CLINIC

Orders and payment (by cash or cheque) for delicious and easy pizza kits will be taken after service on February 12, 19, 26 and March 4. Orders will be delivered to St. Peter’s on March 21st or 22nd (delivery date to be confirmed one week prior). All orders must be picked up on the delivery day. Thanks for helping to address homelessness and poverty in our community. – St. Peter’s Mission & Service Committee.

WINTER BOOK STUDY

Interested in a Winter Book Study? The book will be “The Greatest Prayer: Rediscovering the Revolutionary Message of the Lord’s Prayer” by John Dominic Crossan. Please sign up in the narthex with your preferred time (Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon or Wednesday evening).

Topics for the meeting include: Sudbury Health Unit’s “Stay on Your Feet Falls Prevention Program” – a presentation by Natacha Dupuis who will lead us in a discussion on fall prevention. We will also be having a pole walking presentation to gage interest in this activity as an excellent form of exercise.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity January 18 – 25, 201

For over 100 years, Christians have gathered together to pray for the unity that Jesus wants for His people. We have not yet arrived and so once again Sudbury Christians are invited to gather for a time of prayer on Sunday January 22, 2012, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.at St. Mark’s United Church, 45 Walford Rd.

Ample parking is available at St. Patrick’s Church. Bishop Jean-Louis Plouffe, of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie will be the guest preacher. The ancient Polish custom of “oplatki” will be observed. A collection will be taken for the Sudbury Food Bank.
